I boarded the bus yesterday morning to go my Polytechnic. It was early in the morning and I got the window seat. I settled in my seat, put my laptop and purse on my lap and covered myself in the stole I normally carried as the buses' air-con is usually very strong! This was perfect recipe for falling asleep, more so when I had to go the last stop of the bus, and it was about 50 minutes of the journey. I started off by chanting some mantras, and slowly I dozed off. After about fifteen minutes, I was suddenly woken up by the loud music on my right side. A young girl was sitting next to me, with her earphones plugged, and this loud sound was coming from her side. I tried to look, I mean stare at her, to show her my disapproval, but she was oblivious to all this. I didn't wish to sound rude, so I just kept my cool, and tried to close my eyes. Next half an hour or so, I had to bear with that indecipherable blaring sound, which she seemed to enjoy!
This type of incidents have happened with me earlier also, and every time I am forced to think what damage this type of loud sound is doing to the person who is plugged into it. Rather than enjoying the bus ride in quietude, such persons are doing irreparable damage to their hearing apparatus. Besides the mobile radiations, their sensitivity to the sounds is greatly reduced.
On a lighter note, when I entered my classroom, the class was quite silent, as almost all the students had their earphones plugged, busy with their 'devices'. In this case it was a boon, though temporarily!!
